Walt Disney World Water Parks

By Dr. Jenna Liphart Rhoads

Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, not only has four incredible theme parks to visit- there are two huge water parks to visit as well. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are located on Walt Disney World property and can be accessed using Disney transportation. Both water parks have a variety of water attractions that are great for guests of all ages and can offer a welcome respite from the intense Floridian sunshine and heat. Here is what you need to know about the water parks at Walt Disney World.

What attractions do the water parks offer?

Blizzard Beach: This water park features one of the tallest and fastest free-fall body slides in the world, the Summit Plummet. Blizzard Beach also has a unique 8-lane toboggan racing waterslide, a wave pool, several tube slides, and an area just for children under four feet tall.

Typhoon Lagoon: Home to the world’s largest wave pool, this water park includes a massive lazy river that encircles the entire park along with several body slides and tube slides and a special area for kids under four feet tall.

How much does the entrance fee cost?

Guests can purchase a 1-day ticket, which is subject to dynamic pricing and availability, or upgrade their theme park tickets. The “park hopper plus” or “water park and sports” option upgrades can both be added onto existing theme park tickets by your travel agent.

What services are at the water parks?

Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon both have a wide variety of beach chairs and children’s life vests spread throughout the parks. There are also rental lockers for guests to use near the park entrances, as well as locker rooms that offer showers and changing stalls. Complimentary pool towels are also available for guests by scanning their Magic Band or Key to the World card. Both water parks also have plenty of food, beverage, and treat options for purchase as well!

If you are looking for a way to add a little luxury to your water park visit, both parks offer reserved rental umbrellas, patios, huts, or shacks. Some of these also include a dedicated attendant during your visit. These add-on options are best to reserve in advance as they book-up early. Your travel agent can help you decide which option is best for you and reserve your preference too.

What should I bring with me?

If you prefer to pack your own food and beverages, ensure that nothing is glass. Make sure to also bring plenty of sunscreen.

When are the water parks open?

Typically, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon open at 10am and close between 5-8pm. The closing time can vary- make sure to check the operating hours before you go. The water parks do close during altering periods for refurbishment, so make sure to check which water park will be open during your visit.

How do I get to the water parks?

There are several ways for guests to get to both Disney water parks. Guests who have a vehicle with them can drive to the water parks and take advantage of complimentary parking. Those who are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort can take complimentary bus transportation. To take a bus, guests will need to first take a bus to Disney Springs and then transfer to a bus headed to the desired water park. Additionally, guests can hire a ride share service, such as Uber or Lyft.

Do the water parks have any special events?

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon hosts Disney H2O Glow After Hours events throughout the year. This limited-capacity ticketed event happens after the sun goes down and includes special music, special character appearances, and complimentary snacks and beverages. Check with your travel agent to see if there is a H2O Glow After Hours event happening during your visit!

Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks offer plenty of fun in the sun and would be a great memory to add to your magical Walt Disney World Vacation.
