Most of the year, sunny central Florida provides amazing weather for guests at the various parks of Walt Disney World Resort. Yet, there are times of the year (I’m looking at you June, July, and August) that park guests may need a respite from the sunshine, heat, and humidity of the season. In other words, a cool break from the steamy park weather. Some guests may opt to go back to their resort during the afternoon when the sun is strongest to cool off by swimming in their resort pool or by taking a nap in their room. This is a great option, especially for those who have young children in-tow. However, some guests may want to squeeze every minute of fun out of their park day and need in-park options for cooling down that do not involve sitting in a restaurant. We have compiled a list of rides and shows in Magic Kingdom that provide the perfect opportunity to escape the heat. These attractions are a little longer than a typical ride and allow guests to sit and relax (and even soak up some air conditioning).
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress: This classic attraction is found in Tomorrowland near Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Guests sit in a revolving theater that moves through four different eras of American innovation during a 20-minute show. The tune that is played as the theater moves through each era is beloved by Disney Parks lovers around the world.
Mickey’s PhilharMagic: This 3D animated show also takes place in a theater setting with a 180-degree seamless wraparound screen where guests are treated to Donald Duck’s silly antics after he awakens Mickey Mouse’s magical instruments by wearing his Sorcerer Hat. Mickey’s PhilharMagic is located in Fantasyland directly behind the castle and showcases classic music from Fantasia. The waiting area of this ride is also mostly indoors in the air conditioning.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Located in Adventureland, this indoor classic water ride takes guests on an 8.5 minute journey through a 17th century Caribbean seaport town that has been overtaken by pirates. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Captain Jack Sparrowon your voyage! The waiting area for this ride is shaded and partially indoors in the air conditioning.
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room: This classic attraction is located in Adventureland next to Aloha Isle (a great spot for a refreshing Dole whip on a hot day). During this theater-in-the-round show guests can have a seat and sing along with tropical birds and flowers. The waiting area for this show is outdoors, but is shaded and includes a pre-show experience.
The Hall of Presidents: Found in Liberty Square, guests can take a seat in an impressive theater to hear from all of the United States of America’s presidents. This 25-minute show runs continuously throughout the day and includes both a video portion and Audio-Animatronic replicas of the presidents. History buffs love this attraction!
“It’s a small world”: This 10-minute long water ride is located in Fantasyland across from Peter Pan’s Flight and promotes world peace. Guests will take a seat in a boat to gently sail through a whimsical festival featuring cultures from all seven continents. The waiting area for this ride is shaded and partially indoors. Don’t be afraid to sing along and keep an eye out for the winking hippo!
Now that you are armed with a list of Walt Disney World Resort attractions to stay cool, you can make the most of a Magic Kingdom experience in the steamy summer heat!
